On my Mac, all Office apps were installed in a folder called 'Microsoft Office 2016' in the 'Applications' folder. I have now worked out what the problem was. Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you (I've been really busy and needed to use Word so didn't want to do any uninstalls in case I had problems reinstalling).
